FERA Science Limited (Formerly the Food and Environment Research Agency) vision is to be the leading supplier of services and solutions across the agri-food chain through providing robust evidence, rigorous analysis and expert professional advice to government, international organisations and industry, in order to support and develop a sustainable and secure food chain, a healthy natural environment, and to protect the global community from biological and chemical risks. FERA employs over 450 staff of which almost 400 are scientists delivering over 600 research projects annually. Every year FERA scientists produce 150 peer review papers in academic journals, provide services to customers in over 100 countries and analyse in excess of 50,000 samples. The Plant Health Group of FERA numbers over 160 staff and specialises in R&D, risk assessment, consultancy, plant pathology, epidemiology and diagnostic testing. In particular, the Detection and Surveillance Technologies team has pioneered on the development of novel methods and approaches for the routine detection, characterization and identification of a wide range of pathogens and pests.
